So why no rust? Here’s our hot take: rust offers no true benefits to a raw Wedge. In fact, the grooves on raw Z-Alloy Wedges wear 87% slower compared to rusted Wedges made with 8620 steel, unlocking maximum spin for a longer period of time.**
** Groove area was measured before and after wear, then overlaid using the USGA Groove Scan system (The same method the USGA uses to test for groove conformance). At least 9 grooves were measured at 5 separate locations (6mm heel side, 3mm heel side, center, 3mm toe side, and 6mm toe side) for a total of 90 overall groove measurements per club. The area difference was then averaged across all overlays to determine the absolute wear. Average wear of RTX 6 ZipCore Wedges divided by average wear of RTZ Wedges equals 187%.
